Foi entregue nesta semana o Hollywood Awards. A premiação inicia a temporada de corrida pelo Oscar ao destacar as melhores atuações do ano, que têm grandes chances de concorrer à estatueta mais disputada do cinema norte-americano.
A atuação de Hilary Swank – duas vezes ganhadora do Oscar, por Meninos Não Choram e Menina de Ouro - em Amelia lhe rendeu o prêmio de Melhor Atriz. Robert De Niro foi escolhido o Melhor Ator por Everybody's Fine; Julianne Moore (A Single Man) e Christoph Waltz (Bastardos Inglórios, que também lhe rendeu o prêmio no Festival de Cannes) foram lembrados nas categorias coadjuvantes.
O Hollywood Awards também premia categorias que não estão no Oscar. A ganhadora do troféu New Hollywood Award, para novos talentos na indústria cinematográfica, foi Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe, protagonista do filme independente Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
